A MAC (media access control) address is made up of 12 alphanumeric characters and gives your modem a unique identity on the network. A MAC address is also referred to as a Cable Modem ID.
You might need your MAC address to:
- Improve the security of your wireless network.
- Diagnose or resolve some computer network errors.
Identifying Your MAC Address
You can find your MAC address:
On the modem itself. To find the MAC address on your modem:
- Look for a bar code sticker.
- Find the identifier MAC, or MTA-MAC. The MAC address follows.
