Summary
In-Home Wi-Fi is a superior wireless internet experience, allowing you to connect all of your devices to the internet through your own home Wi-Fi network. Whether you have a Wi-Fi gateway (modem/router combo) or a separate Wi-Fi router from your modem or ONT, customizing your Wi-Fi network can optimize your home Wi-Fi experience.
When setting up your equipment, you can choose to customize your Wi-Fi network name (SSID) and password or use the default. Security experts recommend customizing your network name and password.*
* The Wi-Fi equipment may list the network name as username and may list the password as WEP, pre-shared key or network key.
Use the Default Network Name and Password
If you prefer to use the default Wi-Fi network name (SSID) and password:
- Open your device's Wi-Fi settings.
- Select the default Wi-Fi network name (SSID) found on the Wi-Fi equipment label.
- Enter the password on your device's Wi-Fi settings.
- You can begin surfing, streaming, gaming and more on your new Wi-Fi network. If you're unable to access the internet, you can reset your internet modem. Unplug the modem and router from the electrical outlet. After 30 seconds, plug the modem and router back into the electrical outlet. The modem and router will restart and should be ready within 2 minutes.
Security experts recommend customizing your network name and password.
You Should Customize Your Network Name and Password
If you had a previous Wi-Fi network and would like to connect all the devices to the new Wi-Fi equipment in one easy step OR you would like to create a new network name and password. Follow the steps below to CUSTOMIZE and OPTIMIZE your Wi-Fi network.
There are two sets of instructions below: instructions for non-Plume Routers and instructions for Plume-enabled Routers
Customize SSID and Password (non-Plume Routers)
First, connect to your home internet through the Wi-Fi router by using the default Wi-Fi network name (SSID) and password, found on the Wi-Fi router equipment label.
Now you can customize your Wi-Fi network name and/or password:
- Find the Wi-Fi gateway or router equipment model in the list below.
- Select the IP address for the model or type the IP address into a browser address bar. A new webpage will open where you can customize your network settings.
- Sign in with the username and password listed for the model.
- Follow the instructions to customize your network name and password.
- Write down your updated network info for future use.

Customize SSID and Password (Plume-enabled Routers)
Foe Plume-enabled routers (like our Evo routers), the SSID (Wi-Fi network name) and password are set and changed through the HomePass app. You can find instructions to download the app in this link.
First, launch the HomePass app and navigate to the Adapt section.
Changing the SSID
- Tap the Settings (gear ) icon at the top right of the Adapt section.
- Find your Home Network name.
- Tap the Edit (pencil ) icon to the right of the network name.
- Type the new network name on the next screen.
IMPORTANT NOTE: The SSID will be visible to wireless devices, so do not include any private or personal information.
- Tap Done at the top right of the screen.
Changing a Password
- Tap the Settings (gear ) icon at the top right of the Adapt section.
- Below the Home Network Name, choose whether you want to change your Home, Guests, or Internet Only password by tapping the desired tab.
- Tap the Menu icon () and choose Edit from the menu.
- Type the new password on the next screen.
- Tap Update at the top right of the screen.
Optimize
- Place your Wi-Fi router in a central location in your home, away from household electronics such as baby monitors, microwaves and wireless headsets.
- Many routers have two different settings. If network speed is your priority, 5 GHz performs better than 2.4 GHz. If wireless range is your priority, 2.4 GHz performs better than 5 GHz.
- You can use the same network name and password for both settings; however, most devices do not automatically detect the best setting. Creating a separate network name for each with 5GHz or 2GHz at the end will help identify the setting and allow you to connect your device to the best setting for your needs.
- When you customize a password, most of the routers will require at least 8 characters. Best practice for increased security is to use a longer password that includes capital letters, lowercase letters, numerals, and special characters.
- If you choose to use your previous network name and password, all your home devices will now be working through the new Wi-Fi equipment.
- Before you go...You can increase your home's network security by updating the ADMIN credentials. The ADMIN credentials control who can access and change the settings of your home network. Check the network settings web interface for help on updating the ADMIN credentials.
That’s it! You’ve customized the Wi-Fi network to your needs. You can begin surfing, streaming, gaming and more on your new Wi-Fi network. You can bookmark and revisit this page to update your network name and password whenever you like.
