As long as there is power from the outlet to the Optical Network Terminal (ONT), the battery backup should not beep. If you hear beeping while there is power to the ONT and your Summit Broadband services are working, it indicates a fault with the Battery Backup Unit (BBU) and you should call Summit Broadband to have the unit replaced.
In the meantime, use the following procedure to stop the beeping:
- Open the cover to the ONT cabinet. This cover sometimes has a tab that clips it closed and sometimes requires a screwdriver to remove.
- Locate the ONT battery by following the power cord from the wall to the beeping sound.
NOTE: If any wires obstruct your view or access, be very careful when moving them that you do not disconnect any wires, as that could degrade or disrupt your Summit Broadband services. - Press and hold the Alarm Silence button for 15 seconds. The Mute light should turn on and the beeping should stop.
NOTE: This will silence the alarm, but it also prevents the alarm from warning you when battery backup power is low. Please call Summit Broadband Customer Care to have the faulty BBU replaced.
