Updated App
The Plume Home app is the updated version of the Plume HomePass app, which has reached End of Life (EOL) for support. Plume urges users to download and migrate to the Plume Home app. Plume HomePass will continue to function, but it will no longer receive any updates or maintenance or bug fixes from Plume.
Summary
Follow this article to download and install Plume Home app on an iOS or Android mobile device, and then use the app to set up the in-home Plume network. If you have an installation appointment, you will need to download the app to your mobile device prior to the technician's arrival.
Reminders
It is critical to remember these points so you will be prepared for your installation appointment.
- Download Plume HomePass from the North American/USA App Store (iOS) or Google Marketplace (Android). In most cases this will not be an issue, but if you live or travel abroad for part of the year and live in Florida for part of the year, you must be sure you are connected to the correct app store.
NOTE: Plume has a European account database and a North American account database. If you install your network through the European database, then Summit Broadband will not be able to provide support for your installed Plume Network. If you do not know if you are connected to the correct network, review your App Store settings before downloading. - The primary device and user that will control the Plume Network in the home must be present for installation. Because Plume HomePass provides you a high level of control and monitoring information, the device that will be used to monitor the network and the owner of that device must be present during installation.
- You must register your Plume account with a valid and unique email address. Plume requires an email address to register your network. If you already have Plume at another home in another location that is not a Summit Broadband property, you will need to register your Plume network with Summit Broadband under a different email address.
Steps
The sections below will help you navigate the self-installation process.
Download the App
Go to the App Store (iOS) or the Google Marketplace (Android) and download the Plume Home app.
Set up your Plume account
- Open Plume Home and tap Setup Plume.
- The app will prompt you to enter your name and your email address.
NOTE: Using the Plume service requires you to have a valid email address and a Plume-enabled router. These are requirements of Plume. - You are reminded to check your email for a verification message from Plume. You must verify your email address before continuing the setup.
Add Devices and Profiles
The Plume Home app allows you to set up SSIDs (network), Devices (hardware), and Profiles (people).
WiFi Passwords
SSIDs
The type SSID and password created during the initial setup are configured based on the capabilities of the OpenSync hardware used as the gateway. If 6 GHz-capable hardware is used during setup, a WPA3 SSID is created since this is a requirement for 6 GHz operation. If the hardware is not capable of
6 GHz, the SSID created during setup will support WPA2.
Plume Home networks support simultaneously having both a WPA3 SSID and a WPA2 SSID if there is 6 GHz-capable hardware being used. If 6GHz-capable hardware is not present, the option for WPA3 is not available.
Adding 6GHz-capable hardware to an existing Plume Home network that previously on had the WPA2 SSID will trigger an action item to add a WPA3 SSID as the primary and transition the WPA2 password as the secondary. When operating with two SSIDs, the WPA3 SSID is considered the primary, and the WPA2 SSID is considered the secondary.
Multiple Password support
The Plume Home app allows you to set up to 30 unique passwords on the WiFi network using a single WPA2 SSID. This feature allows you to set up guest access for Plume Home WiFi network without needing a separate guest SSID. Also, each person can have their own unique password for the network, with
customizable access levels and options.
NOTE: The multiple password feature is only available on the WPA2 WiFi network (SSID). The WPA3 SSID, which is required for 6 GHz WiFi, can only have a single password, although Plume Home supports having both a WPA3 SSID and a WPA2 SSID.

Connecting a 2.4GHz-only device to Plume Home
Some 2.4 GHz smart home and IoT devices require another device such as a mobile phone running an app to connect to a WiFi network. The app being used for setup may refuse to connect these devices to the WiFi network if the mobile is not connected to the 2.4 GHz band.
About IoT onboarding mode
IoT onboarding mode is a feature designed to assist in connecting 2.4 GHz-only smart home devices that require the mobile device running the software to be connected to 2.4 GHz during setup. IoT onboarding mode temporarily connects the mobile device running the Plume Home app to 2.4 GHz allowing the smart home device software to continue the setup process.
Important
- The mobile device running the Plume Home app must also be used to set up the 2.4 GHz-only device.
- Your mobile device must be connected to the Plume Home WiFi network.
- IoT Onboarding mode is meant to get the mobile device onto 2.4 GHz so the smart home device application will allow the setup to continue beyond this particular error. However, other common issues may prevent you from connecting the smart home device to the network, such as password issues, special characters (!”#$’_) in the SSID, Password issues, incompatibility with WPA2/WPA3, etc.
- IoT onboarding mode is only necessary during setup. Afterward, the smart home application can be used normally to manage the connected devices.
Starting IoT onboarding mode
- Ensure you are connected to the Plume Home network and open the Plume Home app.
- If your device is within range of other saved WiFi networks, you must turn off the auto-reconnect feature on your mobile device for these networks.
- In the Plume Home app open the Network page and find and open your mobile device in the device list. Tap on it to open the device details page.
- The device running the Plume Home app should be identifiable by the an asterisk within the device icon.
- The asterisk will only be visible in the device icon if the device is connected to Plume Home WiFi network.
- Find and tap the IoT onboarding mode button on the device detail screen.
- Tap on the Enable 2.4 GHz button. Your mobile device should disconnect from the network and reconnect on 2.4 GHz and for the next 60 minutes, the Plume Home WiFi network will only allow your mobile device to connect on 2.4 GHz.
- While your mobile device is connected on 2.4 GHz, set up the smart home device(s) using the manufacturer's mobile app.
Exiting IoT onboarding mode
Once all the smart home devices have been successfully connected, you can let IoT onboarding mode expire or manually turn it off.
- On the device detail screen, tap on the Iot onboarding mode button.
- The button should display when the mode is set to expire.
- Tap on Disable 2.4 GHz.
- Your mobile device will eventually reconnect on 5 GHz, or you can speed this up by toggling the WiFi off and then back on.
Assigning devices to a profile
Security policies, settings, and features applied to a Profile are automatically applied to all assigned devices.
- Scroll down to the Devices area.
- If no devices are assigned, tap on the Assign devices button.
- If some devices have already been assigned, tap the small Assign devices icon button.
- A card stack of unassigned devices will be displayed on the top of the screen.
- Swiping left or right cycles through the card stack of unassigned devices. The Skip button also cycles to the next device.
- The info button on the device’s card opens details about the device.
- You can swipe through the Profile portraits to choose another profile. The name of the current profile will be displayed.
- Tap the Assign button to assign the device to the current Profile or drag the device card onto the portrait.
An “Unassigned devices” call to action card that opens this flow can be found in several places, such as the Home and Security settings screens.
Assigning a Primary device
Each person can have a primary device assigned to their Profile. That primary device's connections and disconnections from the network determine the person being home or away. Motion alerts will only be sent when enabled if no primary devices are at home.
You should always choose a primary device that people are not likely to leave home without and will always stay powered. Smartwatches that connect to WiFi or mobile phones are ideal for primary devices.
- Navigate to the person’s Profile you wish to edit.
- Group Profiles do not have a primary device.
- Tap on their portrait to bring up the options menu.
- Choose the Edit primary device option.
- This option will only be available if devices have already been assigned to the Profile.
- Swipe through their assigned devices and once the desired device is found, tap on the Assign as primary button.
Unassigning devices
A device must be unassigned before it can be assigned to another Profile.
- Open the device screen by selecting the device from one of the device lists.
- Tap on the options button on the top-right of the device’s screen.
- Tap on the Unassign from… option in the menu.
Profiles
Profiles are used to manage devices that will use the same settings or features on the network. They allow settings, such as Internet access level and Security policies, to be set for the Profile instead of at the individual device level. Some Plume Home features, such as Time Outs and Focuses can only be
applied to a Profile.
There are two different types of Profiles:
People Profiles
Creating Profiles for the people using the network is an important first step allowing you to monitor and manage how and when they use the WiFi network.
Once a Profile for a person is created and devices assigned, you can set up Focuses, know when family members are home, and even protect them from malicious threats. Any rules you set for the person can be conveniently applied to all their assigned devices.
During the initial setup, a Profile is created automatically for you using the information you provided during account creation.
Inviting a person to download the Plume Home app when you create their profile provides additional capabilities, such as helping you manage the network without sharing account credentials.
Group Profiles
Creating a Group Profile allows shared devices in the home to be organized so you can efficiently apply settings based on their purpose. Create a Focus for the Media Player Group during certain hours.

People at home
You can view who is at home anytime using the Plume Home app, and even receive notifications when they return home or leave. Each person's status is determined by when their assigned primary device connects and disconnects from the network, which makes it important to assign a suitable primary
device, such as a mobile phone or WiFi-enabled smartwatch for each person.
- If a person's primary device disconnects because it is powered off or the WiFi is turned off, they are considered to have left home.
- When motion alerts are enabled, those alerts will be enabled 15 minutes after the last person's primary device disconnects from the network.
Viewing people currently at home
The Home page displays who is at home under the Manage section, however, it excludes the account owner’s Profile since Time outs cannot be applied to this Profile.

The People at home list displays all People Profiles with a primary device currently connected to the network, including a timestamp of when they were connected.
- On the Home page, scroll down to the Activity section.
- Tap on the Recent motion tile.
- All the people currently at home are listed in the People at home section at the bottom of the Motion page.
Home Away notifications
- Open the Settings page and tap on the Notifications tile.
- Within the Home Away section, select the people you want to trigger alerts.
- An alert will be sent when the person arrives at home and when they leave.
- To avoid false notifications, once the person's primary device disconnects, the system waits 15 minutes before sending a notification that they have left.
