- There are two different speed tests built into the Plume app
- ISP speed test (WAN Speed).
- Device speed test.
From the Home screen scroll to the Adapt section. By default, the app shows the latest gathered outcome for the ISP speed test. Tap the results or tap check speed to bring up the Speed Test history.
NOTE: ISP speed tests are run on the gateway device and use the Ookla servers. This measures the speed delivered from Summit Broadband to the gateway.
Reminder
Speed tests use all available bandwidth in order to see how much is available. This is why ISP speed tests only run when the network is not busy (usually when nobody is home or in the middle of the night).
ISP Speed Tests
The ISP Speed Tests runs every 12 hours automatically, but only when there is no traffic on the network. A history of speed tests for both upload and download speeds displays and can be sorted for the last 24 hours, the last 7 days, or the last 30 days. The default frequency of ISP Speed Tests can be changed.
Last 24 Hours | Last 7 Days | Last 30 Days |
Tap Check Speed Now to manually trigger another ISP Speed Test, which can be run from the app even from remote locations, as long as there is an Internet connection and the Plume network is online.
You can toggle the Autocheck ISP Speed setting On or Off.
The list of Most active devices shows which devices are most active and how much data they consumed. It also provides information on the percentage of all consumed data.
Device Speed Tests
In the People section, find the tile for the device that is running the HomePass app. Tap the device tile to see the details. On the detail screen, tap Device Internet Speed to initiate a device speed test.
The device speed tests measures the Internet speed being delivered to that device through all the connections between it and the network. Speed to the device is affected by quality of the ISP connection, gateway-to-pod connections, the device's connection to the pod, and your device's own Wi-Fi capabilities.
NOTE: if you are not connected to your Plume network, the Device Internet Speed option does not display.
The Device Speed Test runs both download and upload tests. Once complete, a message at the top of the screen provides performance expectations based on the results. The results from the previous Device Speed Test always displays below the current test and results.
