This article provides instructions for connecting popular smartphone and tablets to a WiFi network. If you do not see your phone or tablet model here, consult your device's owners manual or the manufacturer's web site.
Smartphones
Android
To connect to your WiFi network:
- Open the App menu and select Settings.
- Select Wireless & Networks and then choose Wi-Fi.
- Make sure WiFi is turned ON.
- Select your network name from the list.
- Enter your WiFi password.
- Select Connect.

Google Pixel
Wireless Connection
- Open Settings, then select Wi-Fi.
- Tap the On/Off switch to make sure that WiFi is turned on.
- Select the WiFi network you want to join from the list of available networks.
- Enter the password for your wireless network, if needed.
- When the wireless connection has been established, the word Connected will display under the selected network name.
Wi-Fi Assistant
You can manage WiFi connections using Google's Wi-Fi Assistant feature, which automatically connects your Google Pixel or Pixel XL phone to WiFi networks you've connected to before.
Wi-Fi Assistant includes a VPN service to ensure that your information is safe on public WiFi networks. To enable Wi-Fi Assistant:
- Open Settings, then select Wi-Fi.
- Tap the Settings gear in the top-right corner.
- Turn on Use open Wi-Fi automatically.
If you don't want your device to automatically connect to a saved WiFi network:
- Open Settings, then select Wi-Fi.
- Make sure WiFi is turned on.
- Select the saved network of your choice and tap Forget.

iPhone X / 8 / 7
These instructions apply on iPhone 7 and newer models.
- Open Settings and select Wi-Fi.
- Make sure that WiFi is turned on.
- Select the WiFi network you’d like to join under Choose a network… and enter your password. Learn how to find your network name and password.
- Select Join to complete the connection process.
NOTE: A check mark will appear next to the wireless network name after you’ve successfully connected, and the WiFi icon will appear at the top left of your screen.
Samsung Galaxy S7 / S8 / Edge
- Open Settings, then select Wi-Fi.
- Make sure WiFi is turned on, then select your WiFi network.
- If your network isn't listed, select More, then Add Network to connect manually.
- Enter your password, then select Connect.
- If successful, the word Connected will display under the selected network.
NOTE: Make sure your phone is updated to the latest software in order to avoid problems connecting to WiFi.
Tablets
Android Tablet
- Open the App menu and select Settings.
- Select Wireless & Networks, then WiFi settings.
- Make sure WiFi is turned on.
- Select your network name from those available.
- Enter your WiFi password, then select Connect. Find your network name and password.

iPad
- Open Settings and then select WiFi.
- Make sure WiFi is turned On.
- Select your WiFi network from the list.
- Enter your network password and then select Join. When you've successfully connected, a check-mark will display next to your network's name.
Kindle Fire
NOTE: Your steps may vary slightly based on your device’s model.
- Open your Quick Settings.
- Select Wireless.
- Make sure your WiFi is turned on.
- Choose your WiFi network from the list.
- Enter your network password and select Join. Find your network name and password.
Once you've connected to a WiFi network, your Kindle Fire will automatically connect to that network when in range. If more than one previously used network is in range, your device will use the most recently used network.
